An Invitation to Play: Reflections from a Creative Retreat

This past Saturday I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a mini retreat in Boulder with a friend. The retreat was offered by Kristen Abbott at her studio and included 11 women of varying ages.

We began the morning with a lovely breakfast, introductions, and setting our intentions for the day. Kristen then guided us through some gentle yoga to help us settle into our bodies.

Afterward, she invited us into an hour of silence and offered a “menu” of creative art activities—or simply time to read, rest, or nap. It felt like such a gift to have unstructured time with permission to simply be.

After a delicious lunch, we were introduced to the incredible art medium of cyanotype. This camera-less photographic printing process uses treated paper and the sun to create beautiful blue prints. I loved the textures and details that were captured and the way you could watch the transformation unfold right before your eyes.

Earlier in the morning, Kristen had asked us to notice how we felt in our head, heart, and body, and then to observe how that might shift throughout the day.

As the hours passed, there was a lot of reflection about childhood—when we were less inhibited and play came more naturally.

By the end of the day, I noticed that I felt more present, grounded, and calm.

A Small Invitation

I encourage you to schedule a few hours for yourself this month to play, create, or simply be—without a goal of productivity.

Just time to become immersed in something for the joy of it.

I would love to hear what you choose to do.

Working Together This Season

Sometimes we simply need a space to slow down, listen to our bodies, and receive support.

I offer one-on-one herbal consultations and Maya Abdominal Therapy sessions to support digestion, hormonal balance, fertility, and overall well-being. Together we explore what your body may be asking for and create a personalized plan with herbs, bodywork, and simple practices for home.

If this feels supportive for you this season, I would be honored to work with you.
