Beneath the Snow, Something Is Still Growing

Early spring has been bringing quite the surprise this year.
Warm, sun-filled days followed by sudden snowfall — a kind of seasonal whiplash that can feel both disappointing and strangely grounding. I found myself wishing I had brought a few daffodils indoors before the snow arrived, wanting to hold onto the promise of spring just a little longer.

This time of year is always my favorite. I love the returning light and the daily ritual of stepping into my garden to notice what is emerging. Each small green shoot feels like a quiet greeting from the earth. I had hoped to share photos of this new growth, but for now those tender beginnings rest beneath a soft blanket of snow.

Instead of frustration, I am choosing to receive this moment as an invitation — a reminder not to rush forward too quickly, but to pause. To notice. To journal. To reflect.

Recently, I was introduced to the work of poet Emory Hall. Her poem I Have Been a Thousand Different Women has been resonating deeply with me. It speaks to the many selves we inhabit throughout our lives, and the wisdom that is gathered through each transition.

I am not the same woman I was at 18, or even at 30. With time, I have learned to make peace with moments when I felt I could have shown up differently. I hold gratitude for the experiences that shaped me and for the growth that continues to unfold.

I also find myself honoring the women who came before me — my ancestors. Some lived with vitality and strength, while others carried hardship. Some I know by name; others are known only through the quiet inheritance of their stories. All of them are threads in the tapestry of who I am becoming.

As the seasons shift, I notice how each phase of life offers its own teachings. With the wisdom gathered so far, I find myself gently dreaming forward, wondering what the next season will ask of me — and what it might offer in return.

A Gentle Invitation for Reflection

As you move through these unpredictable early spring days, you might pause to consider:

  • What is quietly emerging in your life right now?

  • What parts of yourself are you being invited to honor or release?

  • How might you support your own unfolding in this season?
