Summer Solstice: Following the Earth's Rhythms
Happy Summer Solstice!
Last night I gathered in my women's circle to honor this transition. At the Summer Solstice, the days are at their longest and brightest, and while summer is just beginning, the days will gradually begin to shorten.
This is a beautiful time to follow the earth's rhythms—to pause, savor the season, and prioritize play and exploration.
I am sure you will not be surprised to hear that for me, this play and exploration happens in the garden.
Whether I am creating a new space, tending to my plants, harvesting medicinal herbs, or simply sitting and watching the birds and bees, the garden is my favorite place to be.
And being in the garden with friends, family, and my students brings me even greater joy.
In a couple of weeks, I am hosting a mini retreat: The Homegrown Apothecary. It will take place right here in my garden so that you, too, can experience some of that joy and wonder.
The Homegrown Apothecary is not just for people who call themselves herbalists.
It's for the woman who wants to spend an afternoon in the garden.
For the one who longs to slow down and learn something with her hands.
For the gardener who wonders if the plants growing outside her door might offer more than beauty.
For the person craving community and a deeper connection to the earth.
Together we'll wander the garden, delight in a plant brushing, meet herbs you can easily grow at home, and make simple remedies including an herbal tincture, infused oil, and herbal honey.
We'll make space for play and exploration, gather in community, and deepen our connection to the plants and the rhythms of the earth.
No experience is required. Whether you are simply longing to spend an afternoon in the garden, hoping to deepen your connection to the earth, curious about herbal medicine, or an experienced herbalist wanting to explore the plants in community, you are warmly welcome.
There is something deeply healing about gathering together, putting our hands in the soil, and remembering that the earth has always offered us medicine.
I would love to have you join me.
